Youth counselling

A steady place to talk things through

Warm, strengths-based support for preteens and teenagers in Howick or online when Jonathan's experience and approach are an appropriate fit.

Counselling that starts with connection

You do not need to have the right words before you begin.

For many young people, feeling comfortable with the counsellor matters just as much as the tools or techniques used in the room.

Jonathan takes a collaborative, age-appropriate approach that prioritises rapport, choice and the young person's own strengths. Sessions can make room for what is happening now, build language for difficult experiences and develop practical ways of coping.

Where a parent or caregiver is involved, expectations around privacy, communication and safety are discussed clearly so the young person has a meaningful counselling space while caregivers understand how they can support the process.

Booking for a young person

Parents and caregivers are welcome to book on their behalf.

The young person is the counselling client, even when a parent or caregiver arranges the appointment.

When using online booking, please make the appointment in the young person's name so the correct client record is created. Jonathan can clarify parent or caregiver contact details, consent, confidentiality and practical arrangements before the first session where needed.

If you are unsure whether youth counselling is the right fit, or the booking form does not give you a clear way to enter the young person's details, contact Jonathan first and he can help you get started.

Finding the right fit

Youth counselling is offered when Jonathan's experience and approach are a good match for the young person's needs. If a different or more specialised service would be more appropriate, that can be discussed before or during the work.
